4. The post office square : the old well.
On the village square, you could get water from the well and give it to the animals. In the original pictures you can see the horse tie-down posts. The paved gutters marked out the pavements. All around the square and in the side streets you could find the jobs of old times that made the heart of our countryside beat : the innkeeper, the barber, the baker, the greengrocer, the tinsmith (roofer, zinc worker), the bricklayer, the butcher, the weaver, the tailor, the cooper, the haberdasher, the hairdresser, the blacksmith, the joiner, the shoemaker, the hosier…
